Psalm 119:105 tells us that God’s “Word is a lamp unto my
feet and a light unto my path.” This psalm was obviously written in a day where
there was no access to electricity, so when the sun went down everything shut
down.
The only way to see where a person was going was to shine a
light, and God’s Word is the light that shines to light our way. We are all
born in darkness, and it is Scripture that shows us where to go.
When we don’t know how to find our way to the Father, Jesus
tells us in John 14:6 that He is the way. Sometimes the answers we need in life
are plainly laid out, but other times we have to look a little harder for them.
You might have heard somebody say that the Bible doesn’t
mention things like marijuana, which is true. But all through the New Testament
we see commands to be sober minded, and we can’t be sober minded under the
influence of anything of any substance. The Bible doesn’t mention anorexia, but
Paul wrote that our eating habits should glorify the Lord (I Corinthians
10:31).
Every question we face in life can be answered from the
Bible. So when you find yourself in the dark, use the lamp and light of God’s
Word to illuminate the way.
