Hide and Seek

One of the universal childhood games is hide and seek. As a very scrawny child I was always good at finding a hiding place, but I hated being the seeker. You count to ten, then open your eyes to dark silence, not knowing where anyone is.

Even though I did not like being the seeker back then, Jesus told us that when we seek we will find what we are looking for. In Matthew 7:7 Jesus said, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.”

There are some things that we will not get no matter how many times we ask. The Bible teaches that sometimes our prayers aren’t answered because we are harboring sin in our hearts, or we lacked faith, or we asked for selfish reasons (“Please let me win the lottery!”). Sometimes our prayers aren’t answered because the Lord has a different plan.

But those things don’t change the promise of the verse. Are you seeking forgiveness? You will find it if you repent. Are you seeking Jesus? You will find Him if you seek with your whole heart. Are you seeking heaven? You will find it if you go through Jesus.

There are other prayer requests we may have, but they will never be answered if they are not asked. If there is something you are wanting from the Lord, just remember His promise that if you seek, you will find.
