Casting Your Cares

I believe that each person has a list of cares—things they may be concerned about, worry about, or even stress about. Hopefully, if we are Christians, we will pray about these things. That is why I believe that one of the best verses in the Bible is I Peter 5:7, which says “Cast all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you.”

I am not much of a horseback rider. In fact, my only experience came with little instruction. I was holding on for dear life as I saw the tree approaching, and not knowing where the brakes were, I braced for impact. Sure enough, the branch hit my chest and knocked me to the ground. I knew right then that my days as a cowboy were over. Even though I don’t know much about horses, I do know that the expression Peter used about casting our cares is the same idea as saddling an animal.

Each saddle has pouches or bags that things can be stored in for the journey. Why would the rider be burdened down under the weight or worry of holding on to something when he can simply put it in the saddle? That is what the Lord tells us to do—cast our cares on Him and allow Him to carry the load so that we don’t have to.

And here is the best part of the verse: He cares for us! He doesn’t carry our load because He is God and that is His job, but because He is God and He cares for us. Give the Lord your burden today and saddle up for the ride.
