Did you know that
the United States of America is currently fighting a war? To some of you that
might seem like a foolish question, but as I have asked that to many people
this past week my suspicions were confirmed that most people think the war is
over.
Since it is no longer politically expedient, the media has stopped mentioning the war. But could you imagine if our soldiers thought the war was over? Could you see them walking around without a helmet or gun or radio, all the while being in a war zone? How dangerous! But that is the state of many Christians. We too are at war.
Ephesians 6:12 says, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
We are not at war with each other. This verse is not a call to fight those who reject our message. This is just one more way that Christianity is different from Islam. But we are at war. We are fighting “spiritual wickedness in high places.” Satan and his army declared war on War thousands of years ago, and all believers today are in that battle.
There is no neutral ground; no room for draft dodgers. You are either actively engaging the enemy or you are sympathetic to his cause. As former President George W. Bush made clear following 9/11/01, the U.S. will not make distinctions between those who are terrorists, or those who harbor them. Why? There is a force so evil that all people must bind together to stand against it.
Christians, let’s boldly take the fight to the enemy. We are on the winning side, so what do we have to fear? Let’s spread the message that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, and that He alone can change men’s hearts.
We saw last week that we have a powerful weapon through our faith, now let’s put it into practice and win this war!
